The Chairman of the Ogle International Airport, Michael Correia, has dismissed concerns by some of the operators at the airport, that it is being badly managed.

The Correia group owns a majority stake in the airport. Earlier this week, nine other operators announced the formation of the National Air Traffic Association in wake of what they consider major problems at the Ogle Airport.

But at a Friday press conference, Mr. Correia said the airport is “highly regulated” and was not being managed like a “cake shop”.

He said “Ogle Airport is a highly competition environment with operators having a choice of the main essential services to them. It is wholly irresponsible to suggest that any single airline exercises a monopoly or control in this environment”.

However, other operators at Ogle believe otherwise and have complained to the government about the situation at the private airport.

Mr. Correia said those complaints would represent untruths and he intends to ensure that the government is given the correct version of the situation.

He is convinced that most of the operators at Ogle do not have a problem but are being led astray by Captain Gerry Gouveia of Roraima Airways and Ms. Annette Arjoon-Martins of Roraima Airways.   Arjoon-Martins serves as the President of the new National Air Transport Association while Gouveia sits as its Vice President.

Correia explained that some of the issues that have been raised by some of the smaller operators are already being addressed, but he maintains that they too must understand the nature of competition in the aviation industry.

He went on to brush aside concerns about the large number of shares that the Correia group has in the Ogle Airport, pointing out that when there was need for investment, the Correia group led the way.

Gouveia has said that Correia has been “very disrespectful” to other operators at the airport as he positions the Correia company in an advantage position at the airport. There was a recent move to rename the Airport after Euegene Correia, who was a Minister of Aviation, but the other operators have all disapproved of such a move.
