One dead, two injured during shooting outside El Dorado Gold Trading

A gold miner was shot dead on Monday morning just outside the El Dorado Trading company in DaSilva Street, Newtown during what appears to be a robbery.

Two other persons were injured during the attack.

The dead gold miner has been identified as Deon Stoll. He only came out of the interior region a few days ago.

According to reports, Stoll was about to drive into the El Dorado Trading compound when another car pulled up along DaSilva Street and the occupants opened fire on him.

A security guard and another man who attempted to rush to Stoll’s aid were shot during the exchange.

Persons in the residential area said they were forced to lie flat on the floor in their homes as the gunshots continued for several minutes.

The assailants reportedly made good their escape as the three men who came under attack were rushed to the hospital.

Police investigators were called to the scene and cordoned off the area for over an hour as they began their investigations.

One of the windows of a car that was parked near to Eldorado Trading was shattered during the attack and the car that the now dead man was in also bore a gunshot to its front windscreen.

Investigators believe that the gold miner may have been followed by the assailants to the trading company where he would usually sell his gold whenever he came out of the interior region.
