Guyana has recorded one new case of the coronavirus as testing resumed at the National Reference Laboratory.

No tests were done for two days, but in a release last evening, one new case was recorded from the previous day’s tests.

The Chief Medical Officer Dr. Shamdeo Persaud continues to warn that persons are still not taking the virus seriously.

He said the coronavirus numbers in Guyana continue to climb as more tests are being done.  The country currently has 69 active cases, with no one in the COVID Intensive Care Unit.

A total of 103 persons have now made full recoveries.

The Public Health Ministry continues to remind that men are the most affected with young men between the ages of 20 and 29 at the top of the list.

Guyana last week started the gradual reopening of the country after three months. The phased reopening will continue until the end of August.
