A 43-year-old pedal cyclist died on the spot this afternoon after being hit down by a 4×4 vehicle. He has been identified as handyman, Naresh Nandan.
The accident occurred just after 1 pm outside Yokohoma Auto Trading along the Rupert Craig Highway on the East Coast of Demerara.
The speeding 4×4 vehicle toppled into the fence of the auto dealership and back onto the roadway after slamming into cyclist.
The dead man was identified by relatives who rushed to the scene after receiving reports of the accident. They broke down in tears at the sight of the lifeless body.
The driver of the 4×4 vehicle has been hospitalised with multiple injuries.
Police investigators are probing the accident.
