Police Force gets external assistance in probe of threats against Nations School

The Guyana Police Force today indicated that some progress is being made as it continues to probe the online threats against the private School of the Nations and the shooting of the school’s Director, Dr. Brian O’Toole.

Police Commissioner Leslie James this afternoon told reporters that the Force’s Cyber Crime Unit is leading the probe into the threats of violence that have been made against the school on social media. He said investigators have tapped into resources outside of the Police Force to aid in the probe.

The Police Commissioner revealed that four persons have been questioned so far about the threats and the shooting. He said a number of other persons are being pursued.

Asked whether the two incidents are related, the Commissioner said it appears that way although the statement provided by Dr. O’Toole appears to be pointing to a different person being responsible for the shooting as against the threats against his school.

The Commissioner also confirmed this afternoon that Police Force is working along with the Education Ministry to step up security at a number of schools in the city in wake of the threats.

Although the threats have only been directed at the one private school, the Education Minister has solicited the assistance of the Police to offer help to several schools in terms of security arrangements.
