Police Traffic Dept. still to be consulted on introduction of Parking Meters

As Smart City Solutions and the Georgetown City Council move ahead with the introduction of paid parking meters in Georgetown, the Traffic Department of the Guyana Police Force is still to be consulted on the move, which is weeks away form being implemented.

Traffic Chief, Dion Moore told journalists on Monday that there was no consultation, but he has been invited to a meeting and he believes that he will be briefed on the parking meters.

Over the past month, the company that will be managing the project, Smart City Solutions, has been painting parking spots onto the roadways and in some cases even in front of driveways and entrances to private yards and business places.

The Traffic Chief said there is a concern about some of the marked parking spaces and the issue will likely be addressed at the upcoming meeting.

About two weeks ago, Smart City Solutions announced that the Parking meters will become functional in time for the Christmas holidays.  Persons will be charged $50 for 15 minutes of parking or $200 for the hour.
