A 26-year-old Police Constable is facing manslaughter charges over the shooting deaths of a fellow policeman and a fisherman.

Police Constable Shane James recently appeared at the Mahaicony Magistrates Court on the 25th January, where he was slapped with two manslaughter charges over the deaths of Policeman Dwayne McPherson and fisherman Kishan Budburgh.

The Guyana Police Force only made the information known this morning after being questioned by News Source.

The fisherman and the Police rank were shot dead on New Year’s Day at Mahaicony while the fisherman was being arrested by Policeman Mcpherson over an assault incident.

According to reports, during the arrest, the fisherman attempted to resist and got into a scuffle with McPherson.

It is alleged that during the scuffle between the two men, Police Constable Shane James whipped out his service weapon and opened fire, hitting both the assault suspect and his fellow police officer.

The matter was investigated by the Police Office of Professional Responsibility and the DPP recommended the two manslaughter charges.

In his appearance at the Mahaicony Court, the manslaughter accused was granted bail in the sum of $800,000 on each of the two charges. He is expected to return to Court on Wednesday for the continuation of the matter.
