Port Kaituma farmer remanded over alleged rape of 9-year-old girl

A 59-year-old farmer from Port Kaituma was today remanded to jail after being charged for the rape of a 9-year-old girl.

The man, Clarence Marques, arrived at the Courthouse with a smile on his face, but that became a frown as he was handcuffed and taken before the Court to face the serious charge.

He is accused of luring the young girl to his house by offering her food, and raping her twice. He allegedly started his sexual assault of the child in a fowl pen, before taking her into his house and raping her again.

The matter is an indictable one and as such, he was not required to enter a plea to the charge.

Bail was denied and the matter will continue later this month.
