According to the report, Ashby was the pillion rider on the ATV that was being driven by a Brazilian national when the driver lost control resulting in the ATV flipping over and pinning Ashby down.

Port Kaituma man dies in ATV accident

An accident in North West District, Region One which involved an All-Terrain Vehicle has left a 28-year-old miner dead.

A police report said the incident took place on Sunday evening. The dead man has been identified as Steve Ashby of Port Kaituma.

According to the report, Ashby was the pillion rider on the ATV that was being driven by a Brazilian national when the driver lost control resulting in the ATV flipping over and pinning Ashby down.

The driver fled the scene, leaving the injured young man pinned under the ATV. Persons who were in the area assisted in getting the body out from under the vehicle. However, by the time they got to the hospital, Ashby was pronounced dead on arrival by Doctors.

The whereabouts of the Brazilian driver are unknown and he is only known as “Ahoo”.

An investigation has been launched.
