PPP wants Guysuco and other audit reports before it attends Budget consultations

The Opposition People’s Progressive Party has decided that it will only consult with the government on the 2016 national budget after it gets copies of several audit reports and the Guysuco Commission of Inquiry report.

The PPP was expected to attend a budget consultation session with the government last Friday but cancelled the meeting late Thursday by sending a list of demands to the Finance Minister.

A number of the reports that the PPP is requesting, are still to make it to cabinet and released to the public.

The government has indicated that it is looking to present an early budget next year, possibly in January.

On Saturday, Opposition Leader Bharrat Jagdeo confirmed that the PPP has requested a number of reports from the government.

He said the opposition would like to see the recommendations made in those reports so that his party could incorporate them as part of its presentation to the budget consultations.

PPP Member of Parliament, Irfaan Ali, last week criticized the government for its move to present a budget early in the new year. Mr. Ali said a number of capital works under the current budget year are still to be complete.
