PPP Member of Parliament, Joseph Hamilton, has confirmed that he is the local representative of a company from Suriname that was granted a number of contracts by the Central Housing and Planning Authority to build government housing in Guyana.

According to Hamilton, as the representative of the company, he was involved in all the dealings with the CHPA, including the signing of contracts, negotiations and overlooking of projects.

He gave the company’s name as Rocco Pallis and said it was registered in Guyana in 2016.

During a PPP Press Conference on Thursday, Mr. Hamilton said he has nothing to hide in the matter and revealed that under the government contracts, the company built three duplexes as well as three model homes for the Central Housing and Planning Authority.

Hamilton repeatedly pointed out that he is the representative of the company and the contracts are granted to the company and not him directly, although he is paid for all of his services.

The Central Housing and Planning Authority has found itself under the microscope after reports surfaced that the husband for the Minister responsible for housing had been granted a contract by the agency back in 2017 to build houses as part of the housing project.

The CEO of the agency has since described that situation as a conflict of interest.
