PPP’s Juan Edghill ready to fight $200 Million lawsuit filed by Finance Minister

“It is clear that the Minister is bored, having presided over a Ministry that has seen under-performance… he has moved now from being the Minister of Finance and has taken a side job in comedy because that’s what the lawsuit is,” Edghill told News Source in an invited comment on Monday.

PPP’s Juan Edghill ready to fight $200 Million lawsuit filed by Finance Minister

Opposition Member of Parliament Juan Edghill has responded to the $200 Million lawsuit filed against him by the Finance Minister for libel and malicious prosecution.

Edghill told reporters today that he intends to stand in Court and fight the lawsuit.

Minister of Finance Winston Jordan filed the lawsuit last week through his Attorney. The lawsuit is related to the private criminal charges that Edghill had filed in the Magistrates’ Court against the Finance Minister. Those charges were eventually discontinued by the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Edghill believes that the lawsuit amounts to “comedy” and is nothing more than an attempt to harass him, intimidate him and silence him.

“It is clear that the Minister is bored, having presided over a Ministry that has seen under-performance… he has moved now from being the Minister of Finance and has taken a side job in comedy because that’s what the lawsuit is,” Edghill told News Source in an invited comment on Monday.

The Opposition Parliamentarian said he was expecting a Marshall to show up today and serve him but that is yet to happen.

“I am willing, ready and available to be served. I didn’t see anything so I don’t know what exists,” he said.

Edghill who is also a preacher, also has a biblical message for Minister Jordan: “Tell Jezebel and the Prophets they all will be destroyed.”

As it is written in the bible, Jezebel persecuted the prophets of Yahweh, and fabricated evidence of blasphemy against an innocent landowner who refused to sell his property to King Ahab, causing the landowner to be put to death.

In the past, Edghill has also declared that if Jesus were to walk the earth today, he would be voting for the PPP.

Finance Minister – Winston Jordan

In his submission to the Court, the Attorney for the Finance Minister is contending that the intention of Juan Edghill by filing the private charge of Misconduct in Public Office was to embarrass, humiliate and cause the Minister to suffer public odium and contempt.

Edghill had filed the private criminal charge in relation to the Government’s funding of the Durban Park project.

In the lawsuit by Jordan, it was stated that as a Member of Parliament, Juan Edghill was at all material times aware and ought to have been aware that the Applicant as Minister of Finance “did not pay or authorize the payment of the sum of $906,000,000.00 (Nine Hundred and Six Million Dollars) to Homestretch Development Inc., and as such the Applicant could not have paid or authorized any payment of the sum of $906,000,000.00 (Nine Hundred and Six Million Dollars) to Homestretch Development Inc., and therefore could not have held honest belief that the Applicant paid or caused to be paid the sum of $906,000,000.00 (Nine Hundred and Six Million Dollars) to Homestretch Development Inc., as alleged by the Respondent”.
