PR Consultant Lennox Cornette tipped to be new CEO of NCN; Board still to confirm appointment

Several sources close to the board of the state-owned National Communications Network have indicated that Public Relations Consultant and Preacher, Lennox Cornette could be the next Chief Executive Officer of the National Communications Network.

Cornette who released a book on the telecommunications industry in Guyana last year, was among five applicants who were shortlisted for the top spot after applications were considered a few weeks ago.

He worked at the Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company for a number of years as a Public Relations Officer but had an unceremonious departure.

Cornette later worked at Conservation International and did consultancy services for a number of companies.

The Board of the National Communications Network is still to announce the appointment and several efforts today to get a comment from the Chairman of the Board, Bish Panday proved futile.

News Source understands that the Board is still examining a number of issues related to Cornette and some of those issues may relate to his ability to travel to western nations.

The Board of NCN has also asked the current CEO, Molly Hassan, to remain on the job for an additional month to ensure a smooth transition.  Hassan was expected to leave at the end of this month.  She resigned back in February and gave the board, three months notice.

The applicants for the top job at the state-owned tv and radio network were interviewed by the Board Chairman along with two members, Kojo McPherson and Dr. Paloma Mohammed.  A Human Resources Consultant was also part of the interviewing team.

The applicants included two veteran Guyanese journalists, a former Permanent Secretary and an Attorney at Law who is a former Magistrate.
