President Ali and team discuss banking and finance with Deputy US Secretary of Commerce

During a later discussion on Guyana/US relations hosted by the Atlantic Council in Washington, the President said relations between the two countries are strong and cooperation in a number of areas has been taking place.

President Irfaan Ali is in Washington DC to meet with US lawmakers and various groups on issues related to Guyana and US relations.

Vice President, Bharrat Jagdeo, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hugh Todd, and Foreign Secretary, Robert Persaud, are accompanying the President.

The high-level engagements started today in Washington, according to a statement from the President’s office.

The President’s office said the delegation was invited by the US government and will meet with high-ranking US Government officials, including the US Secretary of State and leaders of Congress and the Senate.

Today the President met and held talks with the Deputy US Secretary of Commerce, Don Graves. The President said the discussions were fruitful and the US Government Official committed support to the Government of Guyana in the areas of banking, finance, and tourism as well as US private sector investment into Guyana.

During a later discussion on Guyana/US relations hosted by the Atlantic Council in Washington, the President said relations between the two countries are strong and cooperation in a number of areas has been taking place.

During the US visit, the President will also speak at the Woodrow Wilson Center for Strategic and International Studies and the Council of the Americas roundtable.

A diaspora meeting has also been planned for Guyanese living in the Washington area.
