President David Granger will make his third address to the Parliament next Thursday, October 22, as it comes out of recess.

Government Chief Whip Amna Ally told News Source on Monday that the sitting will be suspended to facilitate the President’s arrival and subsequent address.

President Granger’s address will focus on the Guyana/Venezuela border controversy and his recent meetings in New York on the sidelines of the 70th United Nations General Assembly.

“He will report to the Assembly and the nation on the Venezuela/Guyana border issue and other issues that arose abroad,” Ally said.

It was this very issue that took the President to Parliament in July.

Foreign Diplomats who reside in Guyana are also expected to attend the Parliamentary sitting. Ms. Ally could not say what will be the agenda for the sitting, apart from the President’s address.

She said the government Members of Parliament have not met to make a decision as yet.

The circulation of an order paper is expected to be done by the Parliament Office later this week. The opposition People’s Progressive Party had called on the President to address the nation following his trip abroad.

Since his return, Mr. Granger has already hosted a press conference where he spoke on the matter. This will be the first time that the President will be addressing Parliament since the PPP took up its seats following the May 11 elections that booted the party from office.
