Procedural and system hiccups responsible for late payment of January salaries for Public Servants -Jordan

Minister of Finance, Winston Jordan, has assured that public servants will all be paid this week, following a delay in the processing of their January salaries.

Several public servants started to voice concern on social media last Friday about the “late payment” of their January salaries.  Usually, public servants would be paid by the 15th January following early salary payments in December for the holidays.

On Monday, Finance Minister Winston Jordan explained to News Source that there was some procedural and system issues that affected the payments last week.

“Everyone should be paid during this week”, he assured as he also indicated that the system should be fully regularised by next month to avoid another hiccup.

Guyana’s public service is made up of thousands of workers.  Back in December, the government processed a $25,000 christmas bonus for them, which came two months after they were granted salary increases between 1 and 10%.
