The Private Sector Commission of Guyana is calling on the Caribbean Court of Justice to deliver a “prompt” resolution to the appeals that have been filed against the Guyana Court of Appeal ruling, which has invalidated the opposition’s no-confidence motion against the government.

In a statement, the PSC claims that Guyana is now going through political uncertainty and it may be affecting the business climate.

The Private Sector Commission said it had discussions with local and international businesses that have expressed reservations in investing as the “uncertainty” continues.

According to the statement, there has been a reduction in Government and private sector contracts directly attributable to the uncertainty.

The statement from the PSC came just hours after the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce issued a similar statement about political uncertainty.

On Wednesday, President David Granger said the views of the private sector could best be described as “misperception”.

He said there is no chaos, no confusion and no crisis in the political situation, adding that his government has done nothing to engender any disorder or any despair in the business community. 

The Opposition Leader Bharrat Jagdeo and Chartered Accountant Christopher Ram, have both filed appeals with the Caribbean Court of Justice in wake of the Guyana Court of Appeal invalidating the no confidence motion.
