In a Facebook post, Gouveia who is the Honorary Consul for Barbados in Guyana explained that in preparation for his travel to Barbados to attend the funeral of former Prime Minister Owen Arthur, he had to undergo a COVID-19 test and the result came back positive.

Chairman of the Private Sector Commission and Businessman, Captain Gerry Gouveia has tested positive for COVID-19.

In a Facebook post, Gouveia who is the Honorary Consul for Barbados in Guyana explained that in preparation for his travel to Barbados to attend the funeral of former Prime Minister Owen Arthur, he had to undergo a COVID-19 test and the result came back positive.

Mr. Gouveia explained that he is now in self-isolation and has none of the symptoms associated with the virus.

He said he is now unable to attend the funeral in Barbados but is following all the protocols required of Covid-19 victims and he is looking forward to a full and speedy recovery.

“I have already advised many of those with whom I have been in contact in recent days, to get tested as well”, Gouveia said.

On Sunday, Gouveia was among several Private Sector officials who attended a breakfast meeting with the President and the visiting delegation from Suriname. He has also been meeting with a number of Government Ministers since they took office.

On Saturday, he was among more than 800 persons in the National Cultural Centre seated among dignitaries for the Presidential inauguration.

After that event, Gouveia attended private parties at Palm Court and at least one other nightspot.

Several members of the Private Sector Commission are now expected to undergo COVID-19 tests.
