Finance Minister Winston Jordan today made it clear that the workers of those semi-autonomous government agencies will also benefit from the salary increases that were announced by the President yesterday.

There was some concern among workers of the Guyana Revenue Authority and other semi-autonomous agencies that the increases might not trickle down to them since many of the agencies would address their own increases.

However, while appearing on the 94.1FM Hot Seat show this afternoon, the Finance Minister said the semi-autonomous agencies will see the increases also.

“These increases are specific to the public service and the institutions that fall within the public services for the rules and salaries. So its the regular public service that include teachers, nurses and other public servants, the Disciplined Services and the semi-autonomous agencies like GRA and GEA and so on”, Mr. Jordan said.

He said once those semi-autonomous agencies receive their funding from the treasury, they are all eligible for the increases.

Minister Jordan clarified that the allowances which were announced are specific to health care workers.

He also made it clear that the President, Prime Minister, Government Ministers and Members of Parliament will not benefit from the increases since the increase they got back in 2015 was for the entire term of the government.
