President Donald Ramotar on Thursday indicated that he was not prepared to concede defeat in the 2015 elections as he still has concerns about elections process.
The President would like to see a manual recount of every one of the over four hundred thousand ballots that were cast.
At a Freedom House press conference, Mr. Ramotar declared that he cannot accept that he has lost the elections. He dismissed the declarations by the various observer missions that the elections were free, fair and credible. He made it clear that he does not agree with their assessment although they were all invited to observe the elections by him.
The Chief Elections Officers in releasing the final results of the elections said the political parties have up until 12 noon the day after the results are declared to seek a recount but it will be up to the Returning Officers to decide whether they will go ahead with that process.
The PPP has not ruled out a move to the court to block the declarations of the final results which would pave the way for a Granger presidency.
The PPP has also raised concern about just over 30 statements of polls which are believed to be fake, being discovered by the elections commission. The American, British and Canadian missions in Guyana have all dismissed the PPP’s view that the elections were fraudulent.
The missions intend to stick to their report of the elections being free, fair and credible.
