One day after the Guyana Revenue Authority announced that it was instituting charges against RAMPS Logistics for alleged fraudulent declarations, the company appears confused over the charges.

In a statement today, the company said while the charges will be reviewed and responded to by its lawyers through the court system, it is making it clear that every declaration filed with the GRA is in respect to Duty Free importations and there are no taxes or duties applicable on the imports and so there is no loss of revenue to the GRA.

The company explained that in July, the GRA informed the company of an investigation into alleged false declarations.

Days later, the Attorneys for RAMPS Logistics responded to the GRA about the allegations, pointing out that there was no basis in law for the allegations. The company cited various sections of the Customs Act to defend its position.

RAMPS Logistics said it never received a response from the GRA more than eight weeks after its lawyers dispatched their letter.  However, the company was informed of the false declaration charges, days after it moved to the High Court seeking a judicial review of its application for a local content license.

The company said it has always respected the laws of every country that it operates in and has always been transparent.

According to the statement from the company, it will continue to operate with the highest levels of integrity and will continue to be committed to Guyana and hope for a fair and speedy resolution of this situation.
