Sixty-three year old, South Ruimveldt resident, Dennis Jones, who was recently released from prison after serving a four year drug trafficking sentence, is back in the custody of the Customs Anti Narcotics Unit facing new drug trafficking charges.
Jones, who was also deported from the US for drug trafficking, was arrested last evening by CANU agents in the South Ruimveldt area after they busted a package containing cocaine that was being shipped to Canada among other items.
Twenty-two pounds of the illegal substance was discovered hidden in a package that contained local wines, custard powder and other products.
The package was part of a Guyana Post Office mail bag consignment for Toronto that was about to be loaded onto a Fly Jamaica flight.
CANU Agents made the bust and moved in to arrest Jones after he was listed as the sender on the package.
He was found hiding out in a South Ruimveldt home. He was immediately arrested and taken into custody. Charges are likely to be filed against him on Monday.
CANU agents are continuing their probe to figure out if any other person may have assisted the man in one way or the other.
Back in 2012, Jones pleaded guilty and was sentenced to four years in jail after he was busted during an attempt to ship over 700 pounds of cocaine to Niger in Africa. The cocaine was hidden in soap powder packets.
