Region 9 farmer and wife charged for marijuana possession after brother “leaves bag behind”

A Rupununi farmer and his wife were today charged for possession of marijuana, after a Police search at their home unearthed over six pounds of marijuana.

The two appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates Court this morning and both pleaded not guilty to the charge.  Their identities were given as Louis Cupertino and Felicia Cupertino.

The search was carried out at the couple’s home last Friday and the marijuana was found in a salt bag that the husband claimed belonged to his brother.

The couple’s attorney, Jerome Khan, told the court that the brother left the bag for safekeeping and was expected to return for it soon.  He never showed up and the couple never checked the contents of the bag.

They were both arrested and charged.  Today they were granted  $200,000 bail each and will have to make their next court appearance on March 7, 2017.
