Regions elect Chairmen and Vice-Chairs

The Regions across the country held their elections today for Chairman and Vice Chairman following the swearing in of the various Regional Democratic Councils.

The APNU+AFC’s Daniel Seeram was elected the Chairman of Region Four with Samuel Sandy as his Deputy.

Seeram is a former Captain in the Guyana Defence Force and was one of the new candidates for the APNU+AFC at the March elections. Sandy was one of the APNU+AFC’s campaign managers along the East Coast of Demerara. He is a college lecturer.

During the election of the Vice Chairman, the Chairman was forced to cast the deciding vote after the AFC Councilors nominated and voted for one of its members, Neilson Mckenzie. That decision by the AFC Councilors saw the APNU and PPP nominees both having 14 votes for the Vice Chairman position.

The new Chairman cast the tie-breaking vote for Sandy.

Across in Region Three, the PPP’s Ishan Ayube was elected as the new Chairman with Omesh Satyanand as his Deputy. Ayube previously served on the RDC as Vice Chairman and is well known in the Region Three area.

In Region Seven, businessman and APNU+AFC candidate Kenneth Williams was elected as the new Regional Chairman. He served previously on the same Council. Former Bartica Deputy Mayor, Kamala Persaud was elected the Vice Chairman.

In Regions Six and Nine which were both won by the PPP, the party decided to keep the two Chairmen around from the last Council. David Armoogan will remain as the Region Six Chairman with Zamal Hoosein as his Deputy. In Region Nine, Bryan Allicock will remain the Chairman with Bertie Xavier as his Vice Chairman.

In Region 10, APNU+AFC Candidate Deron Adams has been elected as the new Chairman with Douglas Gittens, also from the APNU+AFC, as his Vice Chairman.

The newly elected Chairmen and Vice Chairmen will officially be sworn into office soon by the President.
