Almost a week after the Minister of State, Joe Harmon revealed that a number of officials of the former government and their relatives had abused the Guyoil government credit system, the General Secretary of the PPP is challenging Harmon to “be a man” and release the names of the persons.

At his Monday morning press briefing, the PPP General Secretary Clement Rohee said Harmon needs to provide the names and the evidence of officials of the former government and their relatives who were allegedly still taking their vehicles for “free gas” although the PPP was no longer in government.

“Be a man, Be a man and publish the information which you claim you have”, Rohee said.

The General Secretary said his party will not allow Harmon or anyone else from the new APNU+AFC government to make statements against the PPP and its members which cannot be substantiated. He said if Harmon does not provides the list, then the PPP will seek other avenues to obtain the list if it exists.

Government Ministries have a credit system with Guyoil for the supply of fuel for government vehicles. The vehicles would be filled up and at the end of the month the various Ministries would receive invoices for purchase and those invoices would also carry the registration number for the vehicles that would have accessed the service.

According to Minister of State Joe Harmon, the facility was being abused by the former government during its time in office and some former officials and their relatives were still abusing it and as such a decision was made to ensure they are no longer able to access the facility.

Some of the vehicles that were accessing the credit facility for government were not government vehicles.

Harmon said Guyoil has been submitting invoices for payments and the various Ministries have already been informed of what they should be looking for.

He said the government will ensure that those from the former administration who accessed the facility along with the family members and friends will pay for the fuel they would have collected.

“It falls into a pattern of serious abuse by the previous administration and during the course of next week, I will release information about some of the former officials who have been abusing their positions in the state”, Harmon said.
