The Local Government Commission has fired Royston King as the Town Clerk for the City of Georgetown.
He was fired with immediate effect on Wednesday after he refused to respond to the findings of recently concluded Commission of Inquiry into the Georgetown City Council and his work as Town Clerk.
The final report of that Commission had recommended the firing of King over several breaches in procurement, accounting and management at the City Council. However, the Local Government Commission made a decision to allow all of those named in the report to respond to the findings.
King, who was on administrative leave for over three months, turned up at the Local Government Commission but did not offer any comment or additional information related to the statements made against him in the report.
The Commission then decided that it would be best to cut ties with the Town Clerk.
During the Commission of Inquiry hearings, a combative King appeared and sought to defend his record as Town Clerk, even while admitting to approving multi-million dollar deals without written contracts.
King served as the Public Relations Officer for the Georgetown City Council for several years before being elevated to the position of Town Clerk.
He barely survived a no-confidence motion two years ago, but accusations of his multiple alleged wrongdoings remained.
