Former APNU+AFC Member of Parliament Charandass Persaud has been confirmed as Guyana’s new High Commissioner to India. He is expected to take up the post soon.

It was Persaud’s “yes” vote for a no-confidence motion against his own government that led the APNU+AFC government to lose that no-confidence motion and months of Court battles over the motion.

During that brief period, the then Finance Minister Bharrat Jagdeo was appointed Prime Minister then later became President after Ms. Jagan resigned. Hinds was then reappointed as Prime Minister and remained in that post until 2015.

The Foreign Affairs Ministry is also replacing the Ambassador to China.
