Sattaur drops off empty safe at Auditor General’s office

In a strange move that left several state auditors confused, fired Commissioner General of the Guyana Revenue Authority, Khurshid Sattaur dropped off an empty safe in the compound of the Auditor General’s office this morning.

It is unclear what was the reason behind the move but it appeared as though the security safe is the property of the Guyana Revenue Authority.

The GRA’s board last week announced its decision to terminate the services of Sattaur over a number of breaches, including sharing confidential taxpayer information and having a safe of the GRA with taxpayer data, at his private residence.

Mr. Sattaur has been denying any wrong doing.

When contacted today about the security safe that was dropped off at the Auditor General’s office, he refused to give a reason for the move or even answer questions related to it. Instead he complained about not being treated fairly, pointing out that questions should be asked about whether the GRA board conducted any probe of allegations against him before its decision to terminate his services.

“I was no ordinary person at the GRA, I was the Commissioner General and I served under three governments with distinction and so the Board Chairman needs to say what probe was done before terminating my services and he needs to do that”, Mr. Sattaur lamented.

News Source understands that the Auditor General’s office contacted the Guyana Revenue Authority and the empty safe was handed over this afternoon.
