Security guard dies in East Coast mini-bus smash up

A security guard lost his life early Sunday morning when two mini-buses collided along the Le Resouvenir Public Road, East Coast Demerara.

In a statement, the Police said while several other persons suffered injuries, 53-year-old Clive Hercules of Canal Number Two Polder died.

The fatal accident occurred at about 04:30 hrs and involved Minibus PTT 7715 driven by Winston Belgrave, 45, of Laing Avenue and Minibus BPP 1340 driven by Jagdeo Singh,37, of Lusignan.

Hercules was the lone passenger in Minibus PTT 7715. Belgrave, who was one of the surviving drivers, claimed that he was proceeding west along the southern side of the road when he was blinded by the lights of another vehicle, resulting in the collision.

Belgrave was pinned down in his vehicle. However, other occupants of both vehicles were rushed to the hospital where they received treatment for their injuries.

With the assistance of the Guyana Fire Service, Hercules who was also pinned in the front passenger seat was extracted from the vehicle. He was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The other passengers, who received injuries, were all treated and sent home.
