A 13 year marriage ended in bloodshed on Wednesday night as a 31-year-old security guard who had ended an abusive relationship, was brutally chopped to death by her husband while she was at work.

The woman has been identified as Candacy Pitt of Chelsea Park, East Coast Demerara.

Pitt was on duty at the Bygeval Secondary school just before 10 o’ clock on Wednesday night when her husband appeared and barged into the compound to attack her.

Another female security guard who was on duty and attempted to prevent the husband from entering the school yard, was also badly chopped but survived her injuries. That security guard has been identified as 51-year-old Brenda Thomas.

Both women were rushed to the hospital with multiple chop wounds.  Thomas was rushed in for surgery while the man’s former lover, Candacy Pitt was pronounced dead on arrival.

The husband surrendered to the police just after the incident and confessed to the crime.

He is currently in police custody and will face murder and other charges before the end of the week.
