A suspected bandit who has been identified as Raphael Armstrong was shot dead by a Yarrowkabra shopkeeper during a robbery attempt on Sunday.

According to reports it was just after 8:00pm on Sunday night that Armstrong and an accomplice entered the home of the shopkeeper and demanded money from him.

The bandit and the shopkeeper got into a scuffle during which the bandit’s gun fell from his hands and the shopkeeper was able to grab it. He fired several shots at the bandit, hitting him a number of times across his body.

His accomplice ran away from the scene and the Friendship, East Bank Demerara was pronounced dead at the Diamond Hospital.

The unlicensed firearm has since been handed over to the police as the probe continues.
