Shuman commends Budget for creating a better life for indigenous people

The Leader of the Liberty and Justice Party and Joinder List representative in the National Assembly, Lennox Shuman has commended the Government on its 2022 budget, indicating that under the budget, he believes that the country’s indigenous people will see a better life.

The Opposition MP applauded the Government on its move to support more Hinterland projects while looking out for the welfare of the indigenous people.

“Regardless of who sits in the big house, the Government at the end of the day is the Government, it is the superstructure that needs urgent recalibration in order to support the indigenous people and all other Guyanese. Whether I take credit or not, well let’s just say that I won’t, but what I will say is that I’m happy to know that my words have not gone unheard and that the Government took that initiative that superstructure and planned and delivered for the people as represented in Budget 2022”

Shuman said when good initiatives are unveiled by Government, those initiatives ought to be commended.

“Maybe my colleagues would say I make a terrible Opposition MP but I remember during our campaign and politicking prior to 2020, one of the things I said is that we practice adversarial politics instead of co-operation politics or co-operative politics…it says the Co-operative Republic of Guyana and it does not say the combative Republic of Guyana, so when I’m standing here and I’m giving jack the jacket, it is to show that Guyana needs all hands on deck”, the MP said.

In explaining the basis for his support of the budget measures, Mr. Shuman who is the Government’s Advisor on Aviation pointed to the new access roads that will be built connecting the hinterland to the mainland and coast.

He applauded the Government for focusing on community development and the farming communities of the hinterland. He said the work must begin now if Guyana is to truly emerge as the Dubai of the Caribbean.

“I look at it once again contextually, where we started off and remember last year during budget debates, I think the Hon. Ashni Singh would have laid the groundwork from pulling the country back from abbess leveling the country off and now we have the opportunity to build upwards”, he noted.

The Liberty and Justice Party Leader said he fully supports the budget and its measures and believes all Guyanese should do the same.
