Six months in jail for phone thief

A 22-year-old man who appeared in Court today and pleaded guilty to stealing his friend’s $85,000 mobile phone, will be spending the next six months in jail.

The sentence was handed down this morning by the Chief Magistrate after the youth, Marvin Maikou, admitted to the larceny charge.

The incident reportedly took place on the 14th April at the Kingston seawalls.

The Court was told that Maikou was taken to the seawalls by the man and two women and it was during the course of their hang that Maikou was given the phone to hold.

The youth claimed that he was robbed by someone else when he left the company of the three persons to make a purchase.

The friend filed a police complaint and the investigations led to the youth being accused of stealing the phone after his version of events did not check out.

After the six-month sentence was handed down today, the youth calmly walked out of the Courthouse in handcuffs to begin his sentence.
