Soesdyke miner killed during drunken row in Itaballi

Police investigators are once again travelling to an interior location to investigate the murder of another miner.

The police on Sunday reported that 27-year-old miner Dwayne Johnson of Soesdyke, East Bank Demerara was stabbed to death on Saturday night during a drunken argument with another man at Itaballi, Mazaruni river.

He was rushed to the Bartica hospital but Doctors pronounced him dead on arrival. His assailant is on the run.

There has been an upsurge in the number of murders and other serious crimes in the mining community over the past year and several miners groups have expressed concern.

In total, Guyana has recorded over 80 murders for this year already.
