Some Guyanese students left behind in TT over mix up in granted approval and full flight

A number of Guyanese students in Trinidad and Tobago were left behind on Friday after they were not allowed to board the repatriation flight home.

News Source understands that the airline was booked out for the flight and there was also a mix up with those who got the clearance to return home and those who did not get the clearance.

One of the students explained to News Source that the clearance was granted at 7pm on Thursday for them to travel home on the 9am Friday flight.

She said it was a rush for those seeking to come home to purchase their tickets online.

It was explained that for the students to be granted clearance to travel home, it meant that they would have satisfied all of the requirements including the completion of the coronavirus test.

At the Piarco Airport in Trinidad, at least 10 students were left behind although they had already purchased their tickets.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been informed of the issue and is currently making moves to address it.

Over 140 persons arrived on Friday on the repatriation flight from Trinidad and Barbados.  A second repatriation flight from Miami and Barbados with cruise ship workers brought another 180 persons home.
