21-year old stabbed to death in Tiger creek shop

Police investigators are in the Tiger Creek Backdam area, North West District probing the brutal murder of a 21-year-old young man who worked in a small store in the mining area.

The young man, Tyrell Evans of Port Kaituma, North West District was found in the shop on Wednesday midday with multiple stab wounds to his body. Persons in the area rushed him to the Port Kaituma Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Investigators are looking for two men, who are suspected to be miners, in connection with the case. Persons in the area told investigators that the two men were seen running from the shop moments before the young man’s body was found.

The shop was also ransacked and investigators suspect that Evans was stabbed to death during a robbery attempt.

Just last Friday, the Women Miners Organisation raised concern about the growing crime rate in many of the mining areas and the inability of the Police Force to solve many of the cases. A number of murders were recorded last year in the various mining districts and most of those cases remain unsolved.

The organisation believes that there ought to be more police presence in the mining areas.
