Stop withholding CXC timetables -Education Ministry to Schools

The Ministry of Education on Wednesday issued a cease and desist order to those secondary schools across the country that have been withholding the time tables for students preparing for their Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) examinations.

In a statement the Ministry said it has learnt that some public and private schools have not yet provided all students sitting the 2013 examinations with their timetable because of outstanding payments of fees for school-based activities.

The Ministry said “This is not a welcomed practice of the Ministry of Education and as such, we are advising that schools reverse such actions and ensure that ALL CSEC Candidates be provided with their timetable in a timely manner.”

The statement emphasized that CSEC candidates should not be denied his or her right to uplift a timetable.

According to the Ministry, Thirteen thousand, six hundred and fifty-four (13,654) students have been enlisted to sit the CSEC examinations this year and some students are taking as many as twenty subjects at this sitting.

Guyana has been performing creditably at the Caribbean examinations over the years and has topped the region in a number of subject areas.
