Sugar workers to get bonus as sugar production is poised to surpass target

The Guyana Sugar Corporation has announced that sugar workers attached to the Albion, Blairmont and Uitvlugt estates will be paid a bonus as their hard work for the year has paid off and the company will see sugar production surpassing its target.

According to a statement from the company, sugar production is poised to achieve its production target of 103,000 tonnes for this year.

“As at 12 December, 2018, 100,485 tonnes of sugar has been produced for the year. This is in excess of 12,000 tonnes more than what was achieved for the entire year, 2017, from the three estates – Albion, Blairmont and Uitvlugt”, the company said.

The statement noted that the three estates have collectively surpassed their weekly targets on 26 occasions for the year and that translates to the payment of the Weekly Production Incentive (WPI).

It said the qualified employees’ will therefore receive a bonus for the year 2018, as a reward for their performance. The value of the bonus is dependent on the final production figures.

The Corporation has expressed gratitude to its employees for remaining focused and delivering a successful target.

It said with a few weeks left for the Second Crop, employees are encouraged to maintain the team spirit and managers must continue to show strong leadership and management in 2019.
