A Court today freed Super Biker, Stephen Vieira and Car Racer, Nazim Gafoor of cocaine trafficking and possession charges.

However, the other two accused in the 187-pound cocaine in timber case,  businessman Tazim Gafoor and his accomplice GRA Enforcement Officer, Sherwayne DeAbreau were convicted and sentenced to five years in jail.

In addition to the jail sentence, the two have also been fined a whopping $178 million.

In wrapping up the case today, the Magistrate explained that the evidence against Stephen Vieira and Nazim Gafoor were not compelling enough to convict them of the drug charges.

It was further explained that the evidence against Tazim Gafoor and Sherwayne DeAbreau was very compelling as they were directly pinned to the crime by witnesses.

The four men were arrested and charged back in 2017 after agents of the Customs Anti Narcotics Unit discovered the 187 pounds of cocaine stashed in timber being prepared for export.

During the trial, Stephen Vieira led his own defence and explained to the Court that he was contacted for the preparation of shipping documents for the timber, but had no contact with the actual shipment and was unaware of the presence of any cocaine.

CANU investigators were convinced that he was involved. It’s unclear whether they will appeal the not guilty verdicts.  The two convicts were whisked off to prison today to begin their five year jail term.
