Suspected robber shot dead by Police during getaway attempt

According to a statement from the Police Public Relations Office, a Police patrol traversing the Montrose area early this morning noticed a man running behind a car screaming that he had been robbed by the occupants.

Thirty-six year old Ryan Vaux, of Norton Street, Lodge was shot dead by the Police just after 1 o’ clock this morning after he was fingered in a robbery and attempted to escape. The man is believed to be a former member of the Guyana Police Force.
According to a statement from the Police Public Relations Office, a Police patrol traversing the Montrose area early this morning noticed a man running behind a car screaming that he had been robbed by the occupants.

The quick thinking Policemen were able to intercept the car, which had two occupants including Vaux, who was the driver.

The robbery victim positively identified the men as the persons who had just robbed him of a quantity of cash.  Officers found $21,000 in the vehicle and took one of the men in to custody in their vehicle while escorting the other vehicle to the Sparendaam Police Station.

According to the Police, upon arrival on the roadway in front of the Police Station and as the ranks approached the driver, the man brandished a firearm and drove off the vehicle in an attempt to escape during which the police discharged  a round that struck him to his body.

The gun that was brandished by the suspected bandit was found to be a pellet handgun.

The other suspect is in police custody assisting with the investigations.
