Taxi driver charged for rape of 14-year-old girl he considered “close friend”

37-year-old taxi driver, Sebastian Hamichand, was today charged with allegedly raping a 14-year-old girl.  He was granted bail.

The man appeared before Magistrate Judy Latchman and was not required to enter a plea to the indictable charge.

The Court was told that between 1st and 31st December, 2017, he engaged in the sexual penetration of the teenage girl who was under the age of 16. The incident reportedly took place at the Georgetown Seawalls.

The Court heard that the two had become “close friends” since the girl lived close to the taxi service where the accused work.

That close friendship was taken to another level when the man allegedly took the girl to the seawalls and sexually penetrated her.

With no objections to bail by the Police Prosecutor, the Magistrate granted bail in the sum of $150,000 and the accused will return to Court later this month.
