After spending five years on remand for the murder of high school teacher, Kescia Branche, taxi driver Matthew Munroe walked out of custody as a free man today after the State Prosecution admitted that there was no direct evidence linking the man to the crime and the state’s main witness could not be located.

Following the admission of the Prosecution, the trial judge instructed the jury to return a not guilty verdict.

Munroe who was represented by Attorney Dexter Todd was charged back in 2017 for the murder of the school teacher.

The teacher’s battered body was found close to the Le Repentir cemetery. She never regained consciousness and passed away at the Georgetown Hospital. 

The taxi driver, who was one of the last persons to see the woman alive, was arrested and charged after the Police received reports that the teacher had reportedly hired him to take her home after a night out with friends.

An Autopsy Report revealed the cause of death to be brain hemorrhage as a result of blunt trauma to the head.

Her body also bore several broken bones and it is suspected that she may have been dumped from a car in the cemetery.

Just after the woman’s body was found, the taxi driver left the country. He claimed that he had left his car in the care of someone else. He only returned after other persons were questioned about the crime.

However, investigators arrested and charged him after following a number of leads.

The murder had gripped the attention of the entire nation.

The high school teacher, Kescia Branche was well-liked and respected and her brutal murder sent shockwaves across the education sector and the rest of the country.
