Police on the West Bank of Demerara are investigating the murder of a taxi driver who was gunned down in his home.

A report from the police state that just around 12:30 on Sunday morning, the 26-year-old taxi driver was at Onderneeming, West Bank Demerara home when he heard a noise coming from one of the glass windows on his house.

He reportedly was walking to the window to investigate the noise when several shots were fired from the outside through the same window.

The driver who has been identified as Dennis Narine was hit to the chest and was rushed to the West Demerara Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead.

Sources close to the investigations say it remains unclear whether the murder was a hit job or the response of a burglar who was caught in the act. Investigations are underway.
