Teenage girl and friend die in Coverden early Sunday morning crash

Two persons were killed in a gruesome early morning accident on Sunday morning at Coverden on the East Bank of Demerara. The accident occurred just after 3:00am.

Dead are 16-year-old Hansranie Persaud and her friend, 23 year old Rudolph Bess.

The two were on a motorcycle when an approaching SUV slammed into them, killing them both on the spot. The SUV then toppled several times and slammed into another car, injuring the two persons in that car.

The teenage girl and her friend were heading back home from the Soesdyke area after a Saturday night party. The girl had reportedly snuck out of her home to go to the party.

Her relatives were in shock when they were contacted about the accident. They thought she was in her bed.

The two were among several motorcyclists who one driver recalled seeing speeding along the road way. The other motorcyclists only became aware of the accident when they realized that the pair was no longer in the group.

An investigation has been launched into the deadly crash.
