Police investigators in the West Coast Berbice area have found themselves investigating yet another murder in the area, as protest action and reports of violent attacks have been increasing in the area.

The body of 17-year-old Haresh Singh was found around midday in the backdam of #3 village, West Coast Berbice.

According to Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum, the body was found with a wound to the head. The Crime Chief also confirmed that the young man is the grandson of one of the suspects who is in custody for the double murder of cousins, Isaiah and Joel Henry.

In a subsequent statement, the Guyana Police Force said the teenager was killed during the hours of this morning.

He was last seen alive leaving his home on his motorcycle this morning to attend his farm in the Backdam of No. 3 Village, West Coast Berbice.

According to the Police, the teen’s relatives saw smoke arising from the same backdam and left to enquire.

His body was found lying motionless and bleeding from the nose, while his motorcycle was also discovered burnt. He was rushed to the New Amsterdam Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead.

The Police Force said investigators are on the ground continuing the investigation into the latest murder in the area, which has been rocked by widespread protests following the murder of teenagers, Joel and Isaiah Henry.

The Police Force also stated that the murder of Haresh Singh took place even as it assured citizens that the Force will leave no stones unturned during the investigation.

“The Force wishes to go on record to say that it will pursue the investigation of Haresh Singh with the same intensity it did for Joel and Isaiah Henry and will most certainly bring the perpetrators to justice.”

The Commissioner of Police Nigel Hoppie has issued another warning to citizens to desist from all unlawful acts which threaten to further deteriorate law and order in the country.

The Force said failure to desist, all efforts will be made to prosecute offenders to the fullest extent of the law.
