Terry Holder passes on

Former General Manager for Public Relations at the Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company, Terry Holder has died.

Mr. Holder passed away on Wednesday at his Georgetown home where he was ailing for a while. Holder spent decades in the communications and broadcasting fields in Guyana and the Caribbean.  He was the first Programme Director of the Guyana Broadcasting Service and would later become the General Manager at the Guyana Broadcasting Corporation.

During his tenure as GBC General Manager he was elected to serve as the President of the Caribbean Broadcasting Union and he used that position to fight for greater rights for media workers and broadcasters across the Caribbean.

His interest and work in the communications field landed him a job in Barbados as the Secretary General of the Caribbean Broadcasting Union where he worked from 1988 until 1992.

He moved back to Guyana during the early 1990’s and became one of the managers at GT&T where he worked until his retirement a few years ago.

During a feature in Kaieteur News back in 2009,the former Queens College “Old Boy” opined that there was a need for Guyana to be developed in such a way that many Guyanese would want to return home. He said many had questioned his decision to return home and work but it was a decision that he made and never regretted.

Terrence Ormonde Holder was the father of four children. His wife who worked at the Caricom Secretariat passed away a few years ago. He was 73 years old.
