Three dead in Fort Wellington early morning accident

The three dead persons were identified as 23-year-old taxi driver Carlos Edwards, 61-year-old retired Policeman Hookumchand Parmanand and 36-year-old Shabana Latiff. The dead taxi driver's baby and girlfriend are among the injured.

Three dead in Fort Wellington early morning accident

Three persons died on the spot and three others including a young baby are in a serious condition following an early morning smash-up at Fort Wellington in Berbice.

The three dead persons were identified as 23-year-old taxi driver Carlos Edwards, 61-year-old retired Policeman Hookumchand Parmanand and 36-year-old Shabana Latiff. The dead taxi driver’s baby and girlfriend are among the injured.

A Police report of the accident explained that the taxi driver was driving during an early morning heavy downpour of rain when he lost control of the vehicle and slammed into a power pole before crashing through a fence.

The vehicle flipped over several times before coming to a halt in a nearby drain. Persons in the area rushed to assist the injured and the Fire Service had to be summoned to assist in cutting apart the mangled car.

An investigation of the deadly crash is underway.
