Three fishermen missing, One survives as trawler sinks in Atlantic

Three families are holding out hope and praying for a miracle after receiving news of the sinking of a fishing vessel and their three relatives going missing.

The trawler which carries the name “World Friend 307”, reportedly encountered troubles out in the Atlantic early on Saturday morning and sank after flipping over.

Captain Harold Damon and three other fishermen were on board the vessel. One of the fishermen was rescued by another boat, but the Captain and two others remain missing at sea.

Fisherman Vincent Daryl who survived the tragedy at sea said early on Saturday morning, they noticed the boat taking in water in the engine room and another section. He told family members that the Captain immediately made contact with the Noble House seafood company where they worked, and raised an alarm.

The survivor told relatives that after the radio transmission became distorted, the Captain made an attempt to go in search of his phone and it was then that the boat flipped, forcing all four men to jump overboard.

The Captain was last heard raising an alarm for help, and it was a nearby fishing vessel that heard the calls and rushed to their aid, but only the one fisherman was found.

The man was brought to shore and has since been meeting with Police and other investigators.

The wife of the missing Captain, Tonszadel Damon, said there is very little information that is being shared with relatives about search and rescue efforts. She said they are still hoping for the best and that some good news will be relayed to them.

“We heard that even as they were calling out for help, there were boats nearby that ignored the calls. We are really hoping for the best and for answers”, the woman said.

The GDF Coast Guard is expected to support the search efforts. The Noble House seafood company has not issued any statement on the tragedy at sea.
