Three prisoners escape from Lusignan jail

A manhunt is underway for three prisoners who escaped from the Lusignan jail this morning.

Acting Prison Director, Gladwin Samuels, confirmed to News Source that the escape took place early this morning around 4:30.

One of the prisoners has been identified as murder accused, Travis Evans.

The other two have been identified as Sudesh Dyal and Destroy Pollard. The two were both in jail for break and enter.

The three reportedly escaped by scaling the prison’s wall.

Mr. Samuels said an operation is currently underway to locate and rearrest the escaped prisoners.

The Lusignan prison is located on the  East Coast of Demerara and houses hundreds of inmates. When most of the Camp Street prison was burnt down just over a year ago, hundreds of the prisoners were moved to Lusignan and since then have been housed in the prison building as well as makeshift buildings in the compounds.
