Three Venezuelan nationals, including a man who claimed he has Guyana citizenship, were fined $30,000 each after they pleaded guilty to entering Guyana illegally.

The three, Marlon Atwell, Iris Bolivar and Yennifer Bolifar, appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court and through an interpreter entered the guilty plea.

The Court heard that on the 22nd May 2017, at Iteringbang in the Essequibo region, the trio entered Guyana and failed to present themselves to immigration.

They were arrested at a house in Penny Lane in Georgetown.

The two women claimed that they had misplaced their passports after entering Guyana, while the man told the Court that he has Guyana citizenship since his father is Guyanese. He however, failed to present any document to the court that could have confirmed his claim.

The Court also learnt that one of the women, Iris Bolivar, is pregnant for the man’s father, while the other woman, Yennifer Bolivar is engaged to his brother.

At the end of the hearing, the Magistrate instituted the $30,000 fine on each of the accused and ordered one of the women, Yennifer Bolivar, deported.
